Designation of origin and geographical indications of products
Designation of the origin of products (in the sequel designation of origin) is the name of a particular place, region or country used to designate a product originating from this place if the quality or properties of this products are exclusively given by the geographical environment. Geographical designation of a product is the name of a particular place, region or country used to designate a product originating from this place if this product has a specific quality, reputation or characteristic features that may be attributed to this environment.
Application for a designation of origin may be submitted by an association or union of producers or processors with legal subjectivity for a product produced, processed or prepared on a defined territory.
The registered designation of origin may be used by the holder of the certificate of registering the designation of origin of the product (association or union of producers) or by the user (member of such an association or union of producers). The period of duration of the right for the protection of a registered designation of origin is not limited in time.
